cross-cultural communication
Biz Comm lesson was so fun today! Our tutor made us play this game called
Barnga.
haha wth is that? well, it was a game that got me super flustered up and angry! haha yes de angry little girl is back. =)
ok, so here was what happened.. We were seated in our 4 groups as shown in the picture below.. I was in group 2.

Our tutor then gave each group a Rule Sheet, explaining how to play the game. It was a card game, quite similar to Hearts except you dont get to exchange cards with your partner before the game starts, and it's really much simpler than Hearts.
Basically, the person who places the first card, gets to place ANY card. Everyone then places a card, and the card with the highest number of the original suit placed, wins and that is called ONE TRICK. If you got no card of the same suit, then just place any other card will do but you confirm lose lah.
So after each round, the person with the most tricks at each table, wins that round and has to go to the table on the left (i.e. follow the red arrows). The loser, goes to the left (i.e. the green arrows).
Yeah, and we have to do all this without talking. Only gesturing is allowed but no talking.First round, nothing happened. I was still stuck at my table cos I didn't win nor lose.
Second round, I won! haha! so happy right, so I happily went to group 3's table.
Third round, now I'm playing with new people. and they insisted that diamond is their trump card!
I was like thinking,
WTF? where got trump card one? this group happily making up their own rules one har?So i kept protesting la.
And I think, at first they thought I didn't understand what trump card meant.
Haha, I understood la.. but I was just unhappy. Cos I didn't remember anything from the Rule Sheet saying got trump card. Even if it did, can't be that ALL my group members had missed out on it right?
So after much protesting (without talking.. all this done thru gesturing.. damn funny), we continued playing la anyway but I was quite pissed. haha..
Yeah so I realised that I'm quite stubborn. When I know I'm right, I tend to insist on doing things MY way. LOL. Lost that round
big time.
When the game ended, and we went back to our original groups, I started ranting ah. haha.. and that was when we realised how cunning our tutor was.
She had given each group a different Rule Sheet. haha.. Which she conveniently took back before the game started.
-_-I had this grpmate who was so confident that he was gonna win each round. So he was like saying, *yeah see you again in 4 rounds* (cos the winner will have to keep changing tables after each round).
haha, yeah he did end up moving around the class.. in the OPPOSITE direction! cos he kept losing! hahahaha.. damn funny!
Oh and then we had to do a presentation after that, on what we learnt from the game. And the other group kept saying how I was damn angry when they told me of their rules. haha..
see la, stubborn old me. =)
