tudung girls

Lesson just learnt : never judge someone based on how that person looks.

Ok fine, i know it's something that everyone knows. But I guess it just hit me, that some people who portray themselves to be really good and nice, may actually have a whole bag of secrets hidden within them.

On another note, just had a super long talk w Fad about some issues. And it keeps boiling down to the tudung. About how society has this perception that girls who wear the tudung should uphold a certain level of conduct to upkeep Islam's image. I still think it's unfair, that it's just convenient to place the burden on them.

For example, you walk into a coffeeshop, and you see a Malay guy (clearly a Muslim, as the majority are) smoking. Nobody says anything. And then you see another girl wearing the tudung, also smoking. And everyone goes *ehh she's wearing tudung! why is she smoking?*

Not that I condone smoking or anything. But it's just an example. How society has this double standard thingy when it comes to treating guys and girls. Especially tudung girls. We all know that smoking is bad for you. That apparently, it will soon be considered haram. But why is it that the tudung girl gets all the slag? Because she's wearing the tudung, that's why. Because you may not know whether the malay guy is a muslim? *oh pls, yeah right.*

You want to say that she's tarnishing the image of islam; I think Islam has got more pressing issues to worry about. Like, getting people to understand that we are not a religion of terrorists. That people need to understand that they are only reacting in that way cos they have been provoked. Cos others have acted like terrorists to them, and that is the only way that they know how to react.

I say that's what we should be worrying about. How to change people's perceptions about Islam.. Instead of making a big fuss about a tudung girl being seen smoking in public.
