strange lady at macs
the best place for me to study is still
bukit batok macs. classic la that place. sat there for just less than 3 hours today and I got 4 chapters of readings done. sit at home for 3 hours, if i can get one whole chapter done, it's a miracle. haha..
first core paper tmr.. and I'm getting all sorts of opinions regarding this certain calculation from different pple. *haiz* screwed man, screwed.
ooooh, I might just be staying in Hall next sem. It depends ah actually.. still in negotiations with the hall officer and SAO.. but I'm hoping that I do get it. Although he already did say that my roomie will definitely be a non-muslim and most probably Chinese. But oh well, I don't really mind.
oh i've got a story to tell! (it's a bit long, so skip it if you don't feel like reading.)I encountered a
strange lady today at bukit batok macs. At first, she was just sitting at this seat alone, just staring into space, so I sorta ignored her. Then she kept shifting seats. Which is weird, cos she din have any food with her. And she was alone. Then when the group of girls in front of me left, she quickly sat at their seats. And drank their leftover ice milo!
Hmmm.. So I was intrigued. To keep looking, I meant. So I stole glances at her. But I think she realised. Cos she kept looking behind her back, to see if anyone was looking at her. Anyway, you know how macs serve big breakfast and hotcakes in those carton-like boxes? Yeah, those girls had been eating one of those things. So she started opening up those boxes one by one. Presumably to check if there were still any food in there. When she realised that there wasn't, she stood up and moved to another seat. To stare into space again.
I thought that she'd leave by then. But no. She continued, prowling, eyeing people surreptitiously. On the lookout for people who were leaving. And the moment they left, she would sneak up on their table before the workers cleaned it away, and dig around in their leftovers. This happened about 3 or 4 times in those 3 hours I was there. There was once she even found a half-eaten hashbrown and happily nibbled on it.
A few things puzzled me.. - One. The woman didn't look malnourished or starved or anything of the sort. In fact, she looks pretty much healthy. And the clothes that she was wearing, she could blend in in a crowd easily, cos she looks just like your average next-door ah soh. So why was she scavenging (if I may say so) on total strangers' leftovers?
- Two. She was quite picky too. She didn't eat ALL the leftovers, nor did she attack them ferociously like someone who hasn't eaten for days. In fact, I think she likes hashbrowns cos that was what she picked up mostly. (Which is a waste, thou shall never waste thou's hashbrowns, ya hear me!) Beggars cant be choosers right? But she was picky.
- Three. Why the heck was she doing this in macs? Why can't she do it at some hawker centre or someplace else? I think it'd raise less eyebrows.
I was telling
KW about this just now, and he mentioned about
his friend. Who said how wasteful Singaporeans were, so as an experiment to prove his point, survived a week just on leftovers alone! And that friend did survive. So I guess Singaporeans are indeed wasteful. But wahliao! eating leftovers just to prove your point! That's something I don't wanna do and I don't think that I can do it either!
I don't really know whether to feel..
- ashamed, at how wasteful Singaporeans are.. you should always finish your food! food is good! unless of course you're too full, then you should get your boyfriend or any other guy for that matter to finish your food! and if you're a guy, you should never ever NOT finish your food! cos guys have bigger stomachs and thus should be able to finish up HIS food and the girl's food =)
OR
- disgusted, that someone would actually wait for 3 hours to pick on people's leftovers..
OR
- just plain sad, that these things are actually happening in Singapore.. and I'm not doing anything about it.. =(
